About the KOCC

The KOCC is an adult kickball league. The league currently consists of 18 teams of 25 players. There are two divisions. Teams play everyone in their division and one rivalry game. Each team is sponsored by a bar. After all the games are played the KOCC supports one of the sponsor bars by providing them with a couple hundred patrons. The season lasts from the beginning of June until the end of August.

During the season the events committee plans outings. In the past we have floated down the Bogachitta, gone to see the Zephyrs on Thirsty Thursdays, and gone to a water park. At the end of the season we have an awards ceremony where we award the drunkest team, biggest villain, give the Will award, the best new team, and so on. At kickball prom we crown the King and Queen of kickball.

League History

The Kickball of Crescent City kickball league was started in the summer of 2004 with 4 teams. The plaid Ass Baboons, the Red Army, Team IV, and The 3rd Ward Ballers. All the teams were sponsored by the most generous bar in New Orleans Finn McCools. That year Team IV won to become The Original Kickball Champions or TOKC as would be known the next season. We had a fall 2004 season where the league grew to 7. The Red Army won that season. Summer ‘05 saw 8 teams. Katrina won that year.

When we returned that fall a group of kickballers were spending all their time at the Balcony Bar and playing pickup kickball games with the National Guard in the parking lot across the street. I think that kept most of us kinda sane. The Teddy Roosevelt’s won summer 06. In the Summer of ‘08 the KOCC swelled to 16 teams and split into two divisions. The Sexy Back of division one lost to the Furies of division two in the finals. Last season the Fuzz of the SCHLITZKRIEG MEMORIAL CONFERENCE beat Cobra Kai of the TEDDY ROOSEVELTS MEMORIAL CONFRERENCE for the championship. Meanwhile the Dread Pirate Roberts Bar took home the coveted toilet bowl by losing every single game.

What’s New

This season we have expanded to 18 teams. We would like to extend a hearty welcome to the Master Racers and the Bushwackers.

The New Orleans Rum team has become the Warriors from the fall season, what’s next the Orphans. As far as I know they are the only team to change name. Some teams have changed sponsor bars though I’m not really sure who they are.

The season hasn’t even started and we have people out for the season. Semaj of the Dread Pirate Roberts Bar broke his ankle playing a pickup game against the Hooked on Tonics. Lt. Dangle of the Fuzz is out with a knee injury, seriously jepardizing their chance to repeat. Be careful out there.

Playoffs, Bowling and Prom

Handed down from Wheels to the message board, kind of like God to Moses. Cobra Kai has clinched the 1 seed in TRMC. Maulers and Pieholes have clinched playoff berths. Rock N Bowl and Hangovers have clinched Toilet Bowl berths. 69ers and Furies can be no lower than third seed. Ruebots have clinched a playoff berth. Rumrunners and Dread Pirates have clinched Toilet Bowl berths. Sexxxy Back, Tonics, Beat-Alls, and Scallywags will not be playing any post-season games.

The KOCC is going bowling at Rock N’ Bowl on Tuesday the 29th from 7:30pm – 10ish. Because Rock n’ Bowl loves the KOCC, just tell the person working the door that you play kickball and you will get in free of charge, plus free shoe rental. And there will be live music and snacks for free, but you will be responsible for paying your own way at the bar. Rock N’ Bowl is located at 4133 S. Carrollton Ave.

KOCC Prom at the Republic on Friday, August 1st; 9pm – til… According to the newsletter it is 80’s themed again. At midnight there will be the announcement of the King and Queen of the KOCC.

Updates

June 12th, 2008

I added the captains and committee lists to the contact page. The new power rankings are up. Coach from the Dread Pirate Roberts Bar team wrote them. The next day of kickball is June 15th. We are having a kickball social at 3pm.

New Teams

May 25th, 2008

The Teddy Roosevelt’s and Schlitzkrieg are not coming back for this season. They are being replaced by teams representing the Rock N’ Bowl and Old New Orleans Rum. This season all slots for teams are currently filled.

The first weekend of kickball is June 1st. We are having a kickball social at 2pm. Umpire training at 1pm.
